Just bought this little 9 inch beauty off Ebay. It is a Solingen edge brand bowie knife model 406. The edge brand knives had a high carbon content and they could be sharpened to a razors edge. It was sharp when I got it, but I sharpened it to that razors edge. I do not plan to cut wood with it. It will be one of the things I carry on a regular basis. Nice stag handle will go well with my stag griped Cold 1903. This knife has a nice belly to the blade. When you get a carbon hunting knife or combat knife one way to know if it has drawn blood, is that the blade will be discolored. The carbon in blood impregnates the steel and darkens the blade. Looks like some varmints lost their head to this knife. The tip and base are not as colored as the middle. So even though this knife is a skinning and gutting knife it’s original owner did not put it to that task. The knife was also originally so sharp that it sliced through the top of the sheath.
